I have waited all week for this.  It is finally Friday and I have done nothing all week but homework, go to work, and relax in my apartment.  I have been watching how much money I spend all week, just to enjoy tonight.  My roommate has been on me all week about how I have not gone out at all.  I am tired, and honestly all I want to do is sit on my couch, drink a 6 pack of Heineken, and watch the Celtics game but I won't be doing that.  "This better be worth it", I say under my breath.   I already know it won't be.

It's raining outside, it has been all day.  My feet are literally dragging as I begin the walk up to the bar.  "Screw this dude," my roommate says frustrated "we're driving".  Great, now I get to drive up to the bar.  All I wanted to do was go out and have a few beers and socialize with some friends.  I don't want to be in a crowded basement, at some house party where the cops are waiting outside.  Now that I'm driving, I am right back to worrying about those cops.  I park in the back and walk up to the front of the bar.  There is a line.  Why is there a line?  I am standing outside in the rain waiting for this line to die down, wondering why I even bother going through all this hassle.  I just want to go back home where the bars are 21 and older, you show your id at the bar, not the front door, and there is never a line.... well alone a cover.

After I've waited it line as long I have, I feel like they should pay me 3 dollars.  I give the bouncer 3 dollars though, I am really not sure why.  There wasn't a band, it wasn't New Year's Ever, and I am way to old to PAY to sit in a bar and buy overpriced drinks.  Is this guys seriously giving my id a double take?  If he asks for a second form of id, that's it... I'll just go home.  I almost 23 years old, I should be able to enjoy a bar without going through all this nonsense.  I bet that 19 year old drunk kid in front of me is thrilled to be here.  He probably even brought his own booze.  Smart kid.  I would do the same thing if I was 19.  Wait scratch that, I remember being 19 coming to this bar.  We were just so excited that we could go to a bar and drink.  Now 4 years later, that excitement is gone.   19 year old Kyle was happy to pay 3 dollars to be able to go into a bar, in fact he would have paid five.  19 year old Kyle could wait in line all night.  19 year old Kyle would show up drunk.  19 year old Kyle would take his chances driving home.  19 year old Kyle should not be in a bar.

I fight through the crowd of minors hovering over the bar, handing money to their 21 year old friends.  I don't blame them, in fact I did the same thing when I was 19.  I order a glass of Jack Daniels.  It's about time.  The kid next to me can not stop talking about how he is so wasted.  According to his story, he has been all week.  Oh, and look at that!  He is stamped under.  I am really shocked.  Do you really think any business is going to turn down paying customers with our economy the way it is?  I think not.  Drink that green glass full of vodka down, minor.  Don't worry though, the bartender does not care.

I have to finish my drink and get out of here.  I can not handle another person bumping into me, asking me to "do them a favor", or another Chris Brown song.  My friends are ready to go too.  We decide to walk back to my place for some after hours drinking.  After taking his last shot, the kid that was apparently "so wasted" is now good to drive and offers a ride.  No thanks 19 year old, I'll go ahead and walk home.
